Flash: I'm Sorry Mother Spider, I will Avenge You

She liked the chaos of an untamed garden; walking into webs when she hung out the washing and watching spider eggs hatch and eight-pronged dots feel their way into the world. Then she found herself captivated by a man with straight, white teeth.
When he moved in he brought a widescreen TV and a strimmer. Soon, she had a perfectly trimmed lawn. He couldn’t be doing with beds he said, so she made do with a few pots of herbs and flowering perennials. She put up a birdfeeder but when he was mowing, a robin shat on his hat and he demanded she remove it. Soon, there was little in the way of wildlife due to his generous use of weed-killer.
One evening when they were watching the widescreen TV, Mother Spider scuttled out.
   ‘Hello,’ she said.
He stamped on Mother Spider with his polished shoe.
She discovered another use for a strimmer.
When she hangs the washing out, she walks into webs again and the butterflies have come back. But she won’t let herself get netted for a second time.
