She chooses carefully. Every visit to any seaside she allows
herself to bring one stone back with her. The most beautiful or intriguing or
strange. Only one though, that is the rule. Often at the end of the day she
will have several candidates and he watches her deliberate, holding, rubbing,
even licking each stone to help her decide.
After hoping for several days, he is invited to her house.
He takes already wilting tulips. She opens the door, smiles shyly and welcomes
him in.
Inside is a beach of fascinating
stones. They lie together on a towel. He teases her about this
eccentric set up and laughingly she starts burying him in stones. Laughingly
she carries on. And on. Laughingly.
He has trouble breathing due to the
weight of the stones on his lungs. He manages to turn his head slightly. The stone next to his
head is interesting because it looks like a skull.
